Not In China? Take the HSK From Home!

One of the most common questions we receive regarding the HSK is " Can I take the HSK at home?". Luckily, the answer is "yes"!
Indeed, it is now possible to take the HSK at home, but only if you are currently outside of China.
Due to the pandemic, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (the organization responsible for offering the HSK exam worldwide) rolled out an “At Home” version of the HSK exam in 2020. While in-person testing sites have reopened in some countries, the At Home HSK exam is still being offered in many locations where in-person testing facilities remain shuttered.
So, in this blog, we will go over who can take the HSK exam from home, what the requirements for taking the HSK at home are, which countries offer At Home HSK exams, how to sign up for the At Home HSK, and
Who can sign up for the At Home HSK exam?
All candidates outside China who meet the Hanban requirements for At Home HSK can take the HSK from home.
What are the requirements for the At Home HSK exam?
- A computer with Windows 7 or 10 operating system (Mac OS is NOT supported)
- Network bandwidth of 20M, speed 150KB/s or more
- High-def PC camera
- Mobile phone with a camera and the required exam proctoring software already downloaded
- A closed, separate room with no disturbances

According to our investigation of the HSK registration website, the following countries all offer At Home HSK exams.

Since At Home exams are only available in certain locations, you must register by contacting one of the test centers in your region for At Home exams.
How to sign up for the At Home HSK exam?
If you meet the requirements for the At Home HSK mentioned above, here is how to register to take your HSK from home.
- Go to chinesetest.cn to find out which test centers in your country have servers available for the HSK Home Edition.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and choose “Global Test Centers”.
- To find your local test center for At Home exams, fill out your continent, country/area, type test site, test type, test subject, and month. For “Type Test Sites”, select “Online Chinese Test (Home Edition)”.
- Click search.
- A list of test centers that meet your criteria will appear. Find your preferred test center then click on “Detail” to view the address and contact information of the test center.
Note: Test center names and many test cities will only appear in Chinese.
- A page with the contact info and available tests for the test center will appear. The “Test Schedule” section lists all exams offered by the test center, so make sure you are looking at the information for the HSK exam.
- Click on "register". Once you land on the registration page, follow the instructions for HSK registration.
