What are Evening Chinese classes?

Culture Yard provides Evening Chinese classes scheduled twice a week for 10 weeks. Courses are available at a variety of levels from complete beginner to intermediate level.

The goal of our skills-based classes is to focus on real-life scenarios to improve your Chinese quickly and effectively. The course is based on the ‘Experiencing Chinese’ textbook series and except for complete beginner levels is taught mainly in Chinese.

While each level is based on the HSK exam, the test of Chinese language proficiency, the classes place a focus on developing practical listening, speaking and reading skills for living in China and everyday communication in Chinese. It is not an exam preparation course, but it will help those who wish to study to take the  Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK).

How are the lessons structured?

Evening Courses includes either 4-6 lessons per week (2-3x 50 minute lessons each week). In addition to the contact hours, learners can schedule individual sessions with teachers to discuss any difficulties.

Classes are held between 19.00-21.00 on weekday evenings. In order to get the most from the program we recommend learners spend around 4-6 hours of individual self-study outside the class each week. Homework will be set after each class and there will be regular assessments.

Each lesson will include all 4 language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing using a range of communicative activities, structure practice and grammar exercises. Class size is limited to six to allow maximum interaction.

The course is continually under review and improvement so the exact structure can vary from lesson to lesson.

Schedule

Our part-time evening study options are as follows. All classes run from 19:00 – 21:00

  • Option 1 – Twice / Week: Monday & Wednesday
  • Option 2 – Twice/  Week:  Tuesday & Thursday
  • Option 3 – Three / Week: Monday, Wednesday & Friday
