Our German Study Programs

Conversational courses

A1 – Total Beginner Course - Course designed for students with no prior knowledge of the language. At the end of the course the student will be able to have a basic conversation and master simple everyday situations in German. Students will also gain a basic knowledge of German, Austrian and Swiss cities and their culture.

Topics covered: alphabet, numbers, describing places, people and weather, directions, date and time, hobbies and jobs, ordering food, shopping, arranging meetings, booking hotels, housing, comparative arguments, understand newspaper articles, organizing a party or a project.

A2 – Intermediate Beginner Course – Similar to the Total Beginner Course the A2 course focuses on the same topics just in further detail. More vocabulary is explained and further understanding of the language structure and grammar is acquired. Each chapter  talks about situations of daily life. In this course students will learn how to express themselves with a great degree of accuracy, precisely, and eloquently. Students who take this course will eventually be able to have conversations about shopping, media, food, travel, sports and so on, with a reasonable level of detail.

At the end of the course the student will be able to fluently master daily life situations in Germany.

B1 – Advanced Beginner Course - The book used for this course has the same structure as the lower levels, however there is a more in-depth focus on complicated grammatical structures. At the end of the B1 course the student will be able to take the ‘Certificate German’ Test and will be prepared for the Intermediate Course level.

B2 – Intermediate– Book Used: Mittelpunkte B2 (Klett). This course is designed for students who have already achieved a good conversational level of German. The course will focus on cultural as well as linguistic aspects of German, with an emphasis on German history and culture studies. Additionally, students will learn the finer points of making requests, politeness and etiquette, compliments and praise, and sophisticated conversation.

C1 – Advanced - Book Used: Mittelpunkte C1. In this course the student will focus on the preparation for the Goethe Certificate C1, TELC as well as the TestDAF and DHS, with the use of  grammar instruction, conversation practice as well as the use of all test relevant excercises.

About the teacher

Maiken Jaeschke: Maiken is from Münster, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. She lived in the United States while growing up and completed her  high school degree in Kansas, USA. Maiken went on to study International Business Studies in University in Cologne and London. After her degree she worked in Fashion E-commerce in Hong Kong and Beijing. Maiken has also had previous experience in tutoring German, English and high levels of Mathematics.
