English Through Songs
Everyone knows that the best way to learn a foreign language is through song! Which is why Culture Yard is opening a new class which will help you improve your English vocabulary, pronunciation, conversational and expression skills – while still having fun!
We understand learning a new language can be very difficult and classes can become boring. In our new English Through Songs class, homework will require singing along and listening to great music and you will be able to really see your improvement over the course of one session! Taught by an American teacher and former musician, who knows all the classics that will keep the class from ever having a boring and dull moment!
Each class will focus on a different popular song from various genres of American music suiting all tastes of music. Through music students will learn important vocabulary and English expressions, learn about different genres of American music and how to analyse and appreciate the history behind American music. But overall it is a course to enjoy and have fun singing together to popular tunes that you will learn once and remember forever.

Sunday February 19th: You Are My Sunshine, Jimmie Davis
“You Are My Sunshine” is a popular song first recorded in 1939. Made famous by Jimmie Davis, yet many artists such as Bob Dylan and went on to do covers of his notorious song. Join us to bring a little sunshine and happiness to your weekend!

Sunday February 26th: You’ve Got A Friend, James Taylor
Originally sang by Carole King but made famous by friend James Taylor, “You’ve Got A Friend” has become an American classic. It was recorded in the 1970s and ever since has been used widely in films, televisions series and played on the radio. Together we will learn all about the song that represents friendship and loyalty!

Sunday March 4th: Someone Like You, Adele
The voice that represents true art in the modern day. Adele has become famous for her powerful voice and moving lyrics. “Someone Like You” became Adele’s first number one single in the United Kingdom and it stayed on the top of the chart for five weeks. Join this session to understand the meaning behind the beautiful lyrics that make it so easy to relate to and fall in love with her voice.
